回答

・calm
・wind

1. calm

It seems like there is a calm in the wind.

2. wind

The wind just got calm when I arrived at the coast.

The calm before the storm.
・The lull in the conversation.

The calm before the storm is always eerie.

When the wind changes direction at the beach, we say it's 'becoming calm' - what is this called in Japanese?

Native speakers of Japanese use the phrase "The calm before the storm" (嵐の前の静けさ) to describe a peaceful moment right before a chaotic or intense event. It can be used in various situations, such as before a big exam or a crucial meeting. On the other hand, "The lull in the conversation" (会話の沈黙) refers to a temporary pause or silence during a conversation. It can occur when people are gathering their thoughts or when there is a lack of topics to discuss. Native speakers often experience this during social interactions and use it as an opportunity to reflect or change the subject.
